Parshas Lech Lecha (5778)

15:5 When Hashem called Avraham outside to the stars and made the promise for progenity, Rashi in one explanation related that despite Avraham’s star observation, he would not be zocheh to a children;’ Hashem informjed him that that the letter “hey” would be added to his name thus changing his star status and would be subject to a new mazel, and likewise Sarah.  They would now be zochech to their great dream of producing Klal Yisroel.

It is a little difficult for us to comprehend that one letter in his name should have such significance.  Perhaps we can explain the name is actually a real reflection of the soul of the person and when Hashem changed Avram’s name it manifested a real change in Avram, of course for greatness.  The star factor was true but it was backed by Avram’s new true greatness.

Have a wonderful, significant  Shabbos.

Parshas Noach (5778)

by Mordechai Dolinsky

When Noach received the instructions from Hashem to evacuate the taiva (8:16-18) four times the ewxpression “itcha” is unusally used to include all; your family “itcha”, the animals…the insect world…and then again to show that it was all acoomplished.  This was to demonstrate that they were under the strict orders of Noach for evacuation.  One thought for this might be this taiva had the awesome purpose of saving and preserving the world, mankind and life.  It was Hashem’s tool and it achieved a tremendously high level of holiness and had to be evacuated like the chatzotzros of Moshe Rabeinu.

Noach, Noach–you achieved for us the zchus of life and existence.  Appreciate it and use it for the utmost.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a successful and fulfilling month–good Chodesh.

3:19:  Adam has been sent from Gan Aden and his life’s lot, program and agenda is revealed; b’zayas apecha.  Adam was created from the earth and eventually will return to that very earth– in the period between he will be reoccupied working and tilling again that very earth.  What can we learn and grow from this?  What is the deep message?

The Mesilas Yesharim says that since we are created from and made up of adama in order to succeed we must harness our strengths and energies to rise above otherwise we will surely succumb to the power and influence of the earth.

Hashem should give us the insight and the strength.

Have a wonderful and inspiring Shabbos Bereishis and it should lead to a fulfilling Chodesh.

31:16  “kom HaAm v’azvani:–the pasuk is foretelling KLAL Yisroel’s disloyalty turning to strange gods, which is discouraging.  Perhaps we can understand this as subtle belief in these strange gods which Hashem holds us responsible for and for this HE reacts as if He is not here for us.  How much we must be sensitive to this.

Have a wonderful last Shabbos of the year.

29:3 Hashem gave today the heart, the eyes and the ears to have a true insight for the miracles and chessed of Hashem to cling to Him.  Moshe knows this, Rashi says, since Klal Yisroel was overly concerned regarding their absolute right in the future for Torah.  Two tremendous insights and lessons; firstly for one to come to really appreciate the great signs and miracles one must have a special gift from Above, something we would think is completely up to us.  Secondly, Moshe recognized this gift from their outstanding yearning for Torah.  This is also an awesome lesson that the true recognition of miracles must lead to a great yearning for Torah.

Have a wonderul, meaningful Shabbos and Elul.

Parshas Voeschanan (5777)

In our sedra  5:19-23 the pasukim relate the voice of Hashem emitting from a fire; in pasuk 19 the pasuk refers to the voice of Hashem coming from Choshech.  Beside the contradiction how do we understand the concept of darkness?  The concept of fire we can say is the koach of Hashem, the ssence of Hashem, before the manifestation of the Creation, but what about choshech?   Perhaps we can say this is referring to an even deeper essence of Hashem even before the aish, the koach of depth of emes, a very deep revelation of emes which is manifested in the amkus of amkus in the Torah.  Perhaps this might be a reference to chochmas hanistar.  We should be zocheh lilmode u’lehavin.

Have a wonderful, fulfilling Shabbos.

When משה רבנו hit the סלע forsure it had a very strong definite and clear rational חשבון. He thought it was right to go against Hashem’s  commandment and to hit the סלע .  So how can we understand the taina on him?

Perhaps we can say that it was expected of him that he should be so batal to Hashem that he should not have any input just as a senseless  דומם fulfills hashems will.

This should be a great inspiration for all of us to be batal to Hashem, each one on our own level.

Have a wonderful meaningful significant שבת.

Parshas Korach (5777)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

17:10 A tremendous ‘peleh’ we find our parsha, Hashem, upon Klal Yisroel shocking allegiance to Korach calls to Moshe Rabeinu to move from the aida so that He will consume them. Next we find Moshe enlisting Aharon’s assistance to arrest the plague. Peleh of peleh in the clear simplicity Moshe is actually enacting actuating to defer the plague that Hashem clearly wanted.

Perhaps one possible thought when Hashem declared to move away “so I can destroy” this is a statement made only how humans involved would express. In other words Hashem was demonstratint that He wanted it dealt with as ‘bnei adam’. The great, awesome lesson from Korach how we have to fear how one can be blinded and cry to Hashem always for His assistance.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a Chodesh of bracha and hatzlacha.
