Shabbos Chol HaMoed Pesach (5767)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

“Bicholo Dor V’dor chayav adam liros es atzmo…”—we are required in every generation to feel as if we ourselves were redeemed from Egypt. The simple understanding of this is that it is a tool to enable us to feel the gratitude to Hashem.

A deeper understanding; the lesson the Pesach is the Divine control over the Universe, and that the exact predicament and situation we find ourselves in is solely from Divine control—to such an extent that we must feel that here and now the only reason we aren’t slaves today in Egypt is Hashem’s Will, to such a degree that it is as though we just went out.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and Yom Tov.

Pesach (5767)
By Mordechai Dolinsky

The object of Pesach in general, and of the seder night in particular, is to receive very specific spiritual nutrients that we are blessed with only on Pesach.  Avraham Avinu searched for Hashem and Hashem eventually revealed Himself to him.  Klal Yisroel wanted to find Hashem and Hashem revealed Himself to them through the miracles of Yetzias Mitzrayim.  This revelation repeats itself every year on the seder night and the rest of Pesach.

Such a scene that has been taking place thousands of years by millions  of people all over the world, the head of the family or group transmitting the events related to the yetzias mitzrayim.

All our dear friends and relatives are invited to our Pesach mesiba at our home Motzai Shabbos Chol Hamoed.

Have a wonderful, meaningful Yom Tov.

Parshas Tzav (5767)
By Mordechai Dolinsky

On Shabbos our Sages inform us that we receive the inner strength for all that follows in the coming week.  This is the week of the celebration of Pesach, the great foundation of our serving Hashem, the renewal of the miracles of yetzias mitzrayim.  This makes it very appropo to call it Shabbos Hagadol.

The Medrash in our sedra (9:7) that in the future all the sacrifices will be batel except for the korban todah, the sacrifice for gratitude;  this is the foundation of all our service of Hashem, the basis of all our successful human relationships.  This ties everything together—Shabbos Hagadol and the parsha.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a chag kasher v’sameach.

Parshas Vayikra (5767)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

Rashi quotes the Chazal at the beginning of Vayikra that the term ‘vayikra’ is a positive expression to the contrary of Vayiker, which is negative.  There is a very subtle and important difference between the two words.  The question presents itself—why was this sedra selected for this message?  It is not the first time this word was used in the Chumash.  This parsha, which is the parsha of sacrifices, informs us that the true fulfillment of the ideal of sensitivity of our expression can only be realized through true self-sacrifice.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

Shavuos (5767)
By Mordechai Dolinsky

The greatest essential of the fulfillment of the kabolas HaTorah in celebrating Chag Shavuos is our recognition and true appreciation and evaluation of how much we owe Hashem for His gift of the Torah.  Through the objective evaluation of how we would perceive ourselves—how we would look today without the Torah…..

Baruch Elokainu Shebranu Lichvodo Vahivdilanu min hatoim.  Hashem intentionally left this open for us to perceive and evaluate and appreciate and thank.

Have a meaningful YomTov.

Parshas Ki Sisa (5767)

In retrospect, looking back at Klal Yisroel engaging in the “ceht haegel” however it may be understood, we are filled with wonderment at how Klal Yisroel were guilty of whatever they did with that golden calf.  Likewise, we stand with amazement at the numerous seemingly ridiculous spiritual pitfalls that Klal Yisroel had fallen into in the course of our history.

How much we ourselves must be aware and fearful of the blindness the satan imposes upon us and cry out to Hashem for Divine assistance.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

PURIM (5767)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

On what grounds is Purim regarded of the utmost importance and significance? It is most probably not the actual salvation from the imminent danger, rather the actual means of how Hashem saved us. That is, if Haman’s plot was nullified due to some internal political strife or economic crisis, granted it would be a great miracle, but Purim surely would not have received the status it has.

The stupendous nature of the miracle was the intricate sequence of the timing of the various events. It is an awesome lesson of how Hashem is with us always, and how He shows it through ‘hashgacha pratis’; the open manipulation of events. When one realizes this it opens his eyes to this very demonstration by Hashem of His Presence in one’s daily life. This has the most dynamic input in every aspect of our lives. One who accomplishes this has injected the essence of Purim into his whole life; ‘tov lev mishteh tamid’.

A freilichen, meaningful Purim to all.

Parshas Tetzaveh-Zachor (5767)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

The Medrash 36:3 in our sedra brings a Chazal that the learning of Torah equips us with a benefit that we can lighten up the surrounding darkness. This is a fringe benefit which is surely critical for us in this dark time of ikvisa demishicha. We are equipped with a powerful flashlight but we must turn it on.

Now, for this year’s insight into the wickedness of Amalek. What outstanding unique trait did they see in us that they felt so obligated to mercilessly attack a nation of innocent men, women and children, barely survivors of hundreds of years of tortured slavery imposed by the Egyptians? The one and only unique trait we have which our father Avraham acquired and passed on to us in the form of the creation of a great nation is the PURE BELIEF IN HASHEM. This is our uniqueness and what they saw in us that motivated their wicked desire to destroy us. Amalek—a nation that there is implanted in their very fiber the ideal and mentality to viciously destroy people who represent the truth. Machoh Timche es zecher Amalek.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a joyful, significant Purim.

Parshas Yisro (5767)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

The creation of the world is an on-going process despite that it is related to in the Chumash as a singular event.  Likewise, Matan Torah is a perpetual process of Hashem giving us the Torah despite the fact that it is likewise related to in the Chumash as a one time event.  We must constantly connect ourselves with Hashem and appeal to Him to reveal to us His true Will manifested in each time period and situation.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.
