Parshas Noach 5777
By Mordechai Dolinsky

Why did the water rise above the highest nountains? The decree for destruction was for the whole existing world. The tumah of the aveiros did not call for just a punishment but complete annihilation. The taiva was above the world that was to be destroyed, it was hard for Noach to accept Hashem’s decree of complete destruction.

Hashem means business. Hashem means business. Let’s do teshuvah before Moshiach.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

1:2 The pasuk relates the Ruach HaShem hovers over the water and Rashi explains the Kisei Hakavod is suspended in the air “baruach piv”. This is obviously dealing with very deep matters. However if the Dhumash relates this awesome scene there must be some level of comprehension. The world at this stage of non-order and darkness Hashem is hovering qs if considering and contemplating the next move. An awesome lesson for us, sit back and think, consider.

Haqve a wonderful Shabbos and Good Chodesh.

Succos 5777

The Succah is the pure of the pure personification, declaration, expression and exhibition of the awesome chessed ofr Hasehm to the millions of us in the Midbar, night and day for forty years. The foundation of our emunah and bitachon, Hashem loves us, thinks of us always, constantly and is in constant power and control creating the constant matzav.

In this memorial we are uniquely placing our whole body in the Succah, the only such mitzvah. Perhaps the real meaning and significance is that Hashem who loves us is taking us into his arms, embracing us with love. This explains that the succah is actually the Shchinah and the holiness of the Scach.

Have a significant and joyous Yom tov.

The credentials of these words are Hashem asserting Himself, calling out to recite them and relate to them at the time of the darkness of the galus. Why isn’t it related and valued for this?

32:20–Lo aimun bach–Rashi explains that Hashem complained that my upbringing of Klal Yisroel is lost, has vanished. How and when did Hashem bring us up? Firstly we may say the chinuch we get from the derech HaTorah but even more so from Hashem Himsewlf directly through the hashgacha pratius of hIS SENDING His shlichim.

Let’s continue our avoda of kabalas HaMalchus and cleansing our neshamos.

Have a wonderful, meaningful Shabbos.

Parshas Vayelech (5776)
by Mordechai Dolinsky

IN our parsha we have something awesome that perhaps is not given the importance it should. 31:7 Rashi brings that Moshe instructs Yehoshua to take counsel from the wise elders, HKB”H Himself interjects, asserts and instructs Yehoshua to take hold of his leadership in absolute, unyielding strength. We can explain this that Moshe had a special oneness with Hashem which made him the great leader he was, thinking it was unique only for himself. Only Hashem knew that He would bestow this on Yehoshua.

Our avoda these days is to continue the essence of Rosh HaShanah, the acceptance of Hashem as the Melech Olam, as our Melech.

Have a wonderful, inspiring first Shabbos and a gmar chasima tova.

18:9– לא תלמוד לעשית–Rashi brings that one should familiarize himself with the contemporary avoda zara to educate himself as to how perverted their actions are. This is to appreciate the emes–only onetruth–even for the goy– the seven mitzvos bnei Noach. The avoda zara is a perversion in the mind and ideas and leaks to perverted actions and way of life. Ashrei mah tov chelkaine.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a successful Elul.

Parshas Masei (5776)

It was a great פלא עצום that the movement of the camp of Bnei Yisroel was announced by the חצוצרות to the sound of the tekios teruos. These were the קולות blown on Rosh Hashanah, the holiest day of the year at the holiest moment. What is even a greater פלא is that we actually derive the sounds that are blown on Rosh HaShanah from the חצוצרות of the מדבר. The very movement of Klal Yisroel is of the greatest importance and significance and had infinite implications, spiritually and physically, ברוחניות ובגשמיות. This is true of the Klal and the prat; the sound of the shofar, every issue had to be considered with the word of Hashem through our leaders.

Have a wonderful, significant Shabbos, and a Chodesh of redemption.

Parshas Balak-Pinchas

Parshas Pinchas (5776)
By Mordechai Dolinsky

Parshas Pinchas opens with the greatest praise and adoration for Pinchas; Klal Yisroel was in a position, lined up for destruction and the great act of kanous of Pinchas actually saved them. Rashi, to our shock, explains that the mentioning of his yichus in the pasuk as going back to Aharon was because of the ridicule and negativity towards him from Klal Yisroel. How can we understand this?

Rashi tells us that Shevet Shimon was complaining bitterly about the punishment inflicted upon them. How do we understand complaining about a punishment? It is for transgressors to repent and humble themselves.

We have to understand what was transpiring here was the intertwining of two aveiros—znus with Midianite women and the avoda zara of Peor, for which there was a simple level and a more intensive attachment to the avoda. The shevatim were sure that they would not be punished for avoda zara of Peor due to the circumstances that unfairly tempted them by the Mdianite women to do this kind of avoda. So they felt they were being punished for the indecent acts with the Midiante women and although what they did was against the Torah it didn’t warrant the death penalty (which they were right about) and so they felt they were terribly wronged. This is why Shevet Shimon complained outspokenly to Zimri, who felt that they were so embittered and outraged that it was necessary for them to see that their outcry was heard and felt and it called for making a very radical, extreme protest which he did in the form of openly living with Kozbi and thereby demonstrating the lack of stringency of the act. What happened as events turned out, Zimri despite his honorable intentions, was subjected to the law of kanaim pogim bo, which Pinchas carried out with mesiras nefesh. The truth was that the big kitrug of the taanah that Hashem had was for the avoda of baal peor, the avoda of tzimidus, their personal own attachment and involvement to the avoda. Why did it not occur to Bnei Yisroel that with this they were going against HKB”H, rebelling against the Will of Hashem, the ruler of Heaven and Earth.

When Pinchas did his act of kanaus the Shvatim could have furious at him since he was punishing the one that was taking up for their taanos and they might have even taken his life. The fact that they accepted him showed that they were willing to accept and consider that they were mistaken and there was justification in what he did and they were guilty of transgression through the tzimidus to peor. So it emerges that Hashem was on the verge of destroying Klal Yisroel since they didn’t consider they were doing wrong by the avoda of tzimidus and the act of kanaus of Pinchas against Zimri and Klal Yisroel accepting this took off the big taanah of Hashem and therefore he saved Klal Yisroel with his Kanaus. But still there was a bad feeling against Pinchas because he did attack Zimri who did so much to take up for them when they thought they were being wronged.

With this we have an understanding of what the taana was on Klal Yisroel;
why Klal Yisroel had taanos on Pinchas after he had saved them,
how could Zimri have done such a crude act in from of Moshe and Klal Yisroel and why he did it,
why Hashem wanted to destroy Klal Yisroel at this point, and how the kanous took off the anger of Hashem.
