All the items in the dream have significant meaning.  One such factor can easily go completely noticed and in Paroah’s dream I am sure it does by all.  He opens both dreams with himself actually standing at the יאור and makes sure to recall this to Yosef.  Perhaps this can mean that Pharoah just like everything else in the dream was subjects, not in control just like the cows and the wheat.  When בני ישראל arrived he had at his accessibility a nation of the highest intelligence and talents.  This was just ripe for the most advanced nation and Pharoah as a פרה followed Yosef’s direction of having Klal Yisroel completely occupied as isolated shepherds; part of the great effort against assilimation with the Egyptians.

Have an inspiring uplifting Shabbos חנוכה.

The parsha shouts out to us the hashgacha pratis of the Ribbono Shel Olam over us and this should lead to our awareness of this in our own lives. Give praise to Hashem through the Chanukah candles that He reinstate the Torah for us through a great demonstration of His love.

Yosef Hatzaddik was able to achieve all his awesome accomplishment in having insight into Paroh’s dreams and everything that followed by keeping and intensive focus on the presence of Hashem in the world beneath the apparent surface. This was the true key to success of the Chashmonaim’s victory over the Greeks and bringing a great light to Klal Yisroel.

We should all be worthy of this recognition. Have a wonderful Shabbos and Chanukah.

The celebration of Chanukah is not for the miracle of the extension of the light of the Menorah and not for the victory of the physical battle but for the supreme commitment for the inspiration to fulfill the will of Hashem.  In this zechus Hashem showed His Countenance by the revelation of the great Divine light which is manifested in the lights of the Menorah.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a significant and happy Chanukah.

The key to everything is to connect with Hashem, our Creator, and to commit ourselves to His Will.  This was the essence of the success and the significance of the Hashmonaim, this is the essence of the significance of Rosh Chodesh and the true secret of success of Yosef HaTzaddik.  Let us all cry to Hashem for the true fulfillment of this and to bring the ultimate of success for ourselves and blessings for ourselves and the Redemption for all Klal Yisroel.

A freilichen and fulfilling Chanukah, a Chodesh of bracha and a wonderful Shabbos

Despite the brothers efforts to degrade Yosef as a slave the realization of his dreams came true in his becoming the shaini lamelech.

The Yevanim wanted and attempted to eradicate the Torah and the fulfillment of mitzvos and not only failed but due to their manipulations we gained the Yom Tov of Chanukah.

Have a wonderful Shabbos, a fulfilling and insightful Chanukah and a new month of redemption for Klal Yisroel.

Why was Yosef held so strongly accountable for asking to be remembered by the cup-bearer?  One may speculate Yosef’s ability to interpret the dreams either as a wisdom that he possessed with of course Divine assistance, or a special absolute miracle.  Assuming that it was a miracle it can account for Yosef being criticized.

If one is blessed by Hashem to be deemed worthy of such a Divine blessing it is like actually walking on thin air; how can one be concerned about wearing out his shoes?  When Yosef interpreted the dream for Pharoh his test was to do so not feeling at all that it was his wisdom, only a miracle; by drawing on the miracle he had experienced with the Divine gift of interpreting the dreams of the cup-bearer and baker.

This, too, was the test of the Chashmonaim—after having experienced the complete blessing of miracle nothing to do with their efforts whatsoever, they had to continue the war against the Yevanim, not attributing the success to their own efforts.  When one is blessed with this level of miracle he bears the awesome responsibility to respond accordingly.

We are living in an era that, too a large degree, Clal Yisorle is blessed by Hashem with these absolute nissim.  We must be aware of it and live up to the expectations of Hashem in our emuna and our actions.\

Have a wonderful Shabbos, Chaunkah and Chodesh.

Imagine the anguish Yosef went through being falsely accused and subsequently imprisoned for something that he demonstrated and exercised the epitome of self-control not to indulge in and sin.  Now, as a ruler,  he was basking in the success that the false accusations caused and created.  What a lesson!

Our fulfillment of the Torah and mitzvos ignite a light within and outside our homes which usually we cannot see.  Perhaps with the mitzvah of the Chanukah lights we are taking a glimpse at this light.

Have a beautiful Shabbos and a happy Chanukah.

Often we find the most important lessons from the realm of simplicity.  A cup of olive oil, the juice of the fruit with a wick, with applied proper heat will produce light.  This is one of the most profound lessons in the universe.  An olive, which can be the side course for “shmaltz herring”, can produce light.  We humans can float through life, with bland nothingness or if properly inspired, can produce light.  One can lead a life of complacent nothingness or reach awesome, stupendous spiritual heights.

When one is, as modern terminology phrases, “turned on” properly he can be connected with the Infinite, Elokus.  Yosef interpreted the dreams of Paroh in the absolute truth and it was accepted and palatable to Paroh.  Was he an expert in dream interpreting?  He was lit up, inspired and connected with Hashem the Infinite.

The Chashmonaim went against  the Yevanim—a complete, absolute, utter physical impossibility.   They were turned on and connected with the Infinite, the Light…….

A freilichen Chanukah, a wonderful Shabbos and Good Chodesh for you and all of Klal Yisroel.

We find in Chazal the great tzaddik Yosef is criticized for requesting of the Sar HaMashkim to assist him and to be remembered. It is difficult to understand what was so wrong.

This is the parsha of the big ‘yeshua’ of Yosef HaTzaddik.  It is amazing that the whole redemption evolved from the devastating catastrophes that he was afflicted with.  Every step in the anguish fit together as the building blocks of the great salvation.  Yet for sure the ‘yeshua’ was a magnificent manifestation of great miracles.  The great heights of salvation in his promotion to royalty were surely above all “natural” occurrences or expectations.  To begin with the fact that Pharaoh was affected as he was by the dream was itself a miracle.  There was nothing in the nature of the dreams as we find in horror-filled nightmares, that should have caused such a traumatic reaction.

Why didn’t Pharaoh accept the interpretations of the Egyptian experts?  What was the factor that motivated him to accept the interpretation of Yosef with such complete confidence?

The most amazing miracle is grossly overlooked.  The greatest amount of awe and respect Pharaoh acquired towards Yosef for his brilliant interpretation of the dreams can’t account for appointing him and awarding him absolute rule of the nation.

The devastating experiences Yosef went through being sold by his brothers and what preceded it were clearly steps that lead up to the awesome ‘yeshua’.

The unbelievably degrading experience with the wife of Potifar was an unmistakably clear stepping stone to the ‘yeshua’.

The proper outlook and attitude, the true “ovaid HaShem” and “baal bitachon” have when confronted by an undesirable experience is that this unpleasantness is from Hashem, for his benefit, his welfare and ultimate good.  He takes what seems “bad” and looks at it positively by understanding that HaShem has his benefit in mind.  It is surely commendable to see and understand events in this vein.  There are individuals, however, who are way above this and don’t have to overhaul and convert the seemingly “bad” events.  Their clarity and conviction of HaShem as consistently being the pure “maitiv” is so vivid that they see everything only as the pure “hatava” that it is.

Yosef saw, understood, and appreciated the fact that everything was pure goodness and there was no place for making any requests for help.

Sometimes we can see the unraveling of the events before our eyes like a picture emerging from a Polaroid as the pure goodness becomes apparent.

HaShem, open our eyes, we want to always understand and appreciate.
