“Atem Nitzavim” (29:19) – Rashi explains that Moshe brought Klal Yisroel before Hashem; just to contemplate the simplicity of these words – before Hashem – before Hashem. Moshe Rabeinu motivated Klal Yisroel to eradicate and dissipate the great barriers of the world of ‘metzius’, melt the materialism and connect with the reality of HaKadosh Baruch Hu. This is in essence our avoda of Rosh Hashanah.

Wishing you all a wonderful final Shabbos of the year which will connect into Rosh Hashanah of bracha and hatzlacha for all of Klal Yisroel.

Because of the major importance of this major gathering that Moshe Rabeinu called before his passing, it has tremendous significance. (29:1) Roshaychem shiftaychem ziknaychem—Rashi quotes hachoshuv choshuv kodem—perhaps we can see here a special depth that the order having the greater first was that the actual manifestation of the “lifnei Hashem” was from the Elokus that was imbibed in the souls and greatness of the leaders.

Also by honoring the greater first we see the supreme importance of derech eretz—a major prerequisite and requirement for receiving of the Torah. This needs to be reinforced by the world and by bnei Yisroel today.

The kavod of Hashem should be revealed by our commitment to His Malchus; kingdom and rule and this will bring blessing for ourselves and for the world for the New Year.

Have a wonderful and significant windup Shabbos for the year.

How do we fulfill our obligation of proclaiming and relating to Hashem as a king as we are missing an image of real kingship as a role model. We are lacking the pomp and grandeur of royalty but we have the manifestation of true malchus seen through the Hashgacha Pratis in our lives. If one uses his capabilities of deep thinking he will see that this is the truest manifestation of kingship.

This, our last of the year, have a wonderful, meaningful, beautiful Shabbos, and a ksiva v’chasima tova.

The Medrash in our sedra (8:3) relates the experience of a talmid chacham who was able to accomplish the tremendous feat of reviewing his massive wealth of knowledge in an hour. His memory, however, unfortunately failed him following an illness and the complete wealth of his accumulated knowledge left him. His Rebbe, R’ Elazar ben Yaakov declared that this tragic loss was a result of the fact that when he reviewed his learning he failed to put the Torah in the form of speech. The deep principle here is that the input of our energy and involvement of resources bring an increase in kedusha and with this comes a lasting existence. This great principle pertains to all our service of Hashem; the greater of our personal involvement in every way brings great blessings.

Have a wonderful last Shabbos of the year.

May this New Year bring with it blessings for yourselves and Klal Yisroel.

Just as Chazal predicted as the galus progresses before the geula the darkness is compounded. The truth becomes more obscure and the true fulfillment of the Will of Hashem in regard to human relationships and our obligations to Hashem fall short. We yearn and search for the true fulfillment of the Will of Hashem. The key to achieve this is the name and theme of our parsha—Atem Nitzavim lifnei Hashem—to establish the realization that we are standing before Hashem will enlighten us to understand our true obligations to Him and make us understand the dimensions of our duties to our fellow man.

My Rebbe, Rav Miller zt”l always taught us that “all’s well that ends well”; this is the last Shabbos of the year and we should make it the best.

Have a wonderful ‘best’ Shabbos.

The fool says it is impossible to complete the entire Torah material and he gives up (medrash 8:3). The clever one will concentrate on what is before him to study and will eventually complete everything. This concept is consistently true throughout our whole Torah commitment. Just focus on your immediate obligation and fulfill the Will of Hashem. What a dynamic and significant lesson for the completion of this year and our aspirations for the future.

Have a wonderful, significant Shabbos and a blessed year for yourselves and all Clal Yisroel.

In our preparation for Rosh Hashanah we must work on feeling the malchus, the Kingdom of Hashem. Therefore the parsha is so outstandingly appropriate—Atem Nitzavim, you are all standing before Hashem.

It is imperative to devote time each day to generate this feeling within ourselves of having a true perception of the reality of the Kingdom and presence of Hashem. This will lead us to have a successful Rosh Hashana and a happy, prosperous year.

A wonderful Shabbos to all.

We are at the last lap before Rosh Hashana. The goal on Rosh Hashana is to relate to Hashem as the Sovereign King ruling over the entire universe. This in itself is a difficult task since Hashem is not tangible. Even more so, living in an era that we have no real manifestation of a true kingdom to relate to makes this seemingly impossible.

Perhaps the malchus of Hashem can be realized through the contemporary scientific discovery that all matter is just energy with no intrinsic significance. Shifting or removal of this energy can alter or remove anything and everything. This is the most realistic, actual insight and understanding of real malchus, that only Hashem’s “energy” is upholding and controlling the whole universe. This is most likely the true, inner meaning and explanation of how the pasuk that we say in Musaf Rosh Hashana in malchios “Shma Yisroel Hashem Elokainu Hashem Echad”—declares the kingdom of Hashem.

Rosh Hashana is the time everything can change and improve for the better and best. Through the medium of the shofar this is most efficiently accomplished. The sound of the tekiah is a majestic proclamation of the Kingdom of Hashem. The teruah, shvarim and shvarim-teruah are crying sounds, with which we should cry and appeal for redemption from the many tragic situations Clal Yisroel is going through.

Any “spare time” on Rosh Hashana should be used for Torah study which is our biggest zechus. Best wishes for a wonderful year in every way for all of you and all Clal Yisroel.

We reach the last lap of the year with our final week of preparation for Rosh HaShana. The opening words of the parsha are relevant and inspiring in an awesome way. “Atem Nitzavim HaYom ….. lifnei Hashem”.

Our main service on Rosh Hashana is to focus on the Kingdom of Hashem and the absolute submission to His rule. We are living in an era that the vision of the reality of the presence of Hashem in the world is hazy and foggy. “Atem nitzavim…lifnei….” Let’s use this week for the opportunity to lift this fog and to toil in getting ourselves to actually feel that we are standing before Hashem.

Rosh Hashana is the opportunity to bring correction, an absolute straightening and rectification for anything that needs salvation, for ourselves, our families, Clal Yisroel and the world. “Vayelech”—we shall go on and see this fulfillment.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and a wonderful year for all.

The importance and significance of the Parsha is evident from the name—Nitzavim. We are at the threshold of the yom hadin and about to stand before HaShem proclaiming His kingdom, and in judgment. “Atem Nitzavim Lifnei HaShem”—you are standing today all of you before HaShem. The continuity of the sedra is in the same vein, a conglomeration of very basic foundations and principles. For example–“Limaan Sefos HaRava Es HaTzemaya” –the Ramban explains that if a person indulges in physical lusts that he really doesn’t have an attraction for, he will develop a yearning and lust for items and in areas that naturally he would not be attracted to; which really amounts to a type of perversion.

In the Medrash Rabba many of the Chazal show the high priority of limud HaTorah which also reflects the basic foundation. Both the Nefesh HaChayim and the Baal HaTanya explain that the Torah is the essence of HaShem. So standing before HaShem is standing before His Torah. The greatest connection to HaShem is by learning his Torah. By doing so, we are connected to our source of life and blessings.

In a way Rosh HaShana is the most important day in the year. We are proclaiming HaShem as King of the Universe, and submitting ourselves to His rule. The high point of the day is the blowing of the shofar. There is an aspect of this mitzvah that is important to make note of. The ‘shevarim’ and ‘teruos’ are sounds of crying. We can get absorbed in the many technical aspects of this mitzvah without asking ourselves what are we crying for. Is it just some technicality to make a crying sound?

We are crying for the numerous contemporary tzaros;
The physical ailments—tumors—heart disease—car accident victims—army and terrorist casualties—the widows and orphans—the suffering and heartache—shalom bayis problems; the animosity, the divorce and the horror that follows. Singles not finding mates, married couples without offspring, children going astray; financial disasters.

In the crying of the shofar our focus should be petitioning Hashem to reestablish the world anew, fresh and free from blemishes. “Ki Hu Chayecha ViOrech Yamecha: (30:20).

A wonderful year to you all together with Klal Yisroel.
