(18:18 and the following pesukim) The pasuk gives significance to Avraham’s great mission. “KI yedativ lemaan asher yetzaveh es bonov etc. — the foundation of foundations- Avraham’s central purpose and then connects it so significantly which follows his awesome appeal for the salvation of the wicked Sedom. This is a revelation of the key of his greatness which was the love and concern for every human being.

On his last Shabbos Reb Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Rosh Yeshiva of the biggest Yeshiva in the world said out of context – the tzavaa of the Mirrer Yeshiva is ish echad b’lev echad.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

One of the most puzzling, astonishing difficulties in the Chumash we find in our parsha—Vayigash Avraham (18:23)—Rashi explains–lidaber koshos—in conjunction with the meaning –“lamilchama”; to speak harshly with HaKasdosh Baruch Hu?  We see that Hashem wants us to relate to Him in a realistic, meaningful way.  How this applies to each and every one of us must be studied.  But Hashem wants the relationship.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

The theme of the sedra is chessed which is the foundation of Klal Yisroel.  The first step of chesed is the “sur mayrah” part which is not hurting others, something which unfortunately is very prevalent these days.

We must pray to Hashem to open our eyes and enlighten us as to where we unintentionally hurt others in our environment and devote a few moments each day for introspection on this issue.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

I wish to share a unique and unconventional understanding of the parsha of akaidas Yitzchok (which I eventually found in the Eben Ezra) based on the understanding of the Chumash on a level of simplicity of the text; the words of Hashem Himself.  The title of this greatest of magnificent events is the ‘akaida’ the focus of which is aimed at the “tying” rather than the willingness of Avraham to actually slaughter his son.  Likewise the greatness is always attributed to Avraham Avinu which logically should go to Yitzchok for his willingness to be slaughtered.  It is clear (22:7) that Yitzchok had no idea that he was selected to be the object of the sacrifice.  Avraham Avinu under direct command from Hashem to slaughter his beloved son, had to do so.  But Yitzchok not subjected to the command was under the obligation to save his soul.  Avraham therefore kept the commandment secret from Yitzchok and when the appropriate time arrived had to forcibly tie Yitzchok who most probably and appropriately offered the utmost of resistance and Avraham to fulfill the commandment had to tie and constrict Yitzchok.  Very far from the image of Yitzchok willingly stretching out his neck to be slaughtered.  On one hand we find Avraham Avinu  attempting one of the greatest acts in the history of the world and Yitzchok with a personal obligation to do everything in his power to sabotage and prevent it from happening.
This crystallizes the awesome obligation on us to constantly weigh and consider the true Will of Hashem placed on us.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

In honor of our parsha Vayeira and its insight into Avraham Avinu who we must emulate, being the founder of our nation, I wish to express the importance to pray to Hashem for special Divine assistance in insight to the true manifestation of the fulfillment of the will of Hashem in our generation.

Rashi quotes the Chazal that the malachim inconvenienced Avraham Avinu to come out and invite them since he didn’t know that they were aware of the fact that he yearned for guests despite his illness.  The lesson is that the true fulfillment of “bain adam L’chaveiro” is deep consideration and delving into the true circumstance of the one we want to help.

Avraham is visited by Hashem Yisborach, something which is difficult for our mouths to repeat and almost impossible for us to comprehend.  He begs forgiveness and excuses himself to attend to three crude looking wayfarers.   The message is a theme which is found and repeated many times in Chazal but very much misunderstood; the priority of our “bain adam l’chavero” and its extreme importance in the eyes of Hashem.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.
